This is another custom MAB hunting knife made from a 200 plus fold lava twist pattern damascus steel blade. The knife blade is marked with my MAB logo as the maker of this fine custom knife. The knife was made from a bar stock damascus billet. The knife billets are shaped, ground, polished, oil quenched hardened and tempered to rockwell 58, then acid etched to help bring out the damascus pattern, and gun blued, then given one final polish, By me Mark Buzzell (MAB) right here in Carmel Maine. This custom hunter is 7-1/2″ inches overall with a 4″ inch Damascus steel blade and a 3-1/2″ inch cutting edge just over 1/8″ inch thick and 15/16″ inches wide at the widest point. The handle is made from some great looking “real” stabilized fossil coral. The fossil coral is found in oceans around the world and will date to 15,000 to 20,000 years old or more, many countries no longer allow dreging or harvesting of coral any longer so it is getting harder to find as time goes by, It just goes to show what a real exhibition grade fossil coral handled knife should look like when its used on a custom knife. I used two custom pins in the guard and two more in the handle, The brass guard with brass spacers are all made from flat bar and sheet stock and shaped to the knife by hand. The brass guard and spacers give this one a great look to finish off this great custom knife. The handle fits just great in your hand for a snug grip. The knife is a full tang construction so it will hold up in the field if you decide to give it some use. Your custom knife has also been hand sanded from 220 grit to 2,000 grit for a glass look on the handle. I also hand filed the top of the blade in my “Barb Wire” pattern and the handle in my “Double Wave” pattern. All my file work is done by hand with a round file and a half round file, Not with a dremel like some custom knife builders do and call it file worked. So as you can see I put a lot of time into every one of my custom knives from fit and finish, To file work, So each custom knife can be used in the field or saved as a collectors piece for years to come.
